Homework

Reading

Children should be reading every night at home for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Their homework diary should be signed and brought into school EVERYDAY and will be checked frequently. Children can read a book from school or a book from home. Some children will be given extra phonics support and work to complete at home.



Spellings

New spellings will be given on Wednesday and there will be a dictation session on the following Thursday.



Maths

The children should be completing their math’s timestable sheet given to them each day at home time. This is monitored by Miss Arian. The children should also be going onto TT Rockstars and White Rose Infinity for extra practice so that they are ready for the upcoming Times Tables Check in June.

Friday Homework

The children will also be given additional homework on an A4 sheet. This will be handed out on a Friday and is due in on a Wednesday. It will focus on Maths and English skills they have been learning throughout the last two weeks and it will include any QR codes and links to White Rose Infinity Quizzes which the children can access. 

The children have PE on Wednesday and Thursday this term. Children need a full PE kit on these days which includes blue Dallam top, black shorts and suitable trainers. Please ensure your child has a hat with them during the summer months and suncream when needed.

This term, we will be focusing on writing narrative based on the book ‘Alba the 100 year old fish’ by Lara Hawthorne.

Class Novel

The children have really been enjoying reading this book called ‘Alien in the Jam Factory’ by Chrissie Sains.

The children have an opportunity to read everyday and as a class we read a wide range of texts. We have an enormous school library and class library filled with the latest books to suit the childrens interests and needs. We encourage the children to discuss books with confidence and explore a range of genres and authors.

During the Summer term, the children will be focusing on decimals, money, time, shape and position and direction. We will be using lots of concrete materials, pictorial representations and looking at word problems and reasoning to improve our overall mathematical skills.

We now have access to White Rose Maths infinity and so the children can log in with the school code DQG-VHY and quiz pin which will then allow them to access quizzes which are designed to target their individual needs.

This term the children will be learning about two topics sound and electricity. 

During these topics, they will explore how sound travels, build electrical circuits, explore conductors and insulators and investigate through experimenting and working scientifically.

Who was victorious in the struggle for the kingdom of England?

This is such a fun topic that the children have enjoyed so far. This term we will be looking at the Viking invasions and battles. An important figure at this time was King Guthrum and we will focus on how he led the Danish invasion and how this impacted the Saxons. Finally, we will investigate what happened to the Vikings and what the future held for them.

What are the key features of rivers?

We will be focusing on key features of a river this term and in particular looking at the second longest river in Europe the Danube in Russia. We will be looking how water flows, conducting field work in Sankey Valley and taking a trip to Nell Bank to complete river studies, explore the creatures in the water and do some pond dipping.

Why do Muslims fast during Ramadan?

We will be looking further into Islam and the importance of Ramadan.


PSHE

Our topics for Summer are relationships and changing me.

We deliver these sessions through our Jigsaw scheme and focus on relationships between friends, conflict and respect. 

Changing me will focus on our unique qualities and touch on some puberty topics. Please note we work closely with Mrs Wood our Jigsaw lead on ensuring any sensitive topics are discussed with parents prior to the sessions.

We are looking at tempo, dynamics, pitch and structure during this term.


Art

We will be on craft and design centered around the rainforest. 


Design and Technology


We will be making and designing our on electrical torches which will link nicely to our science topic.
