Science
In the autumn terms, our science topics are:
Light
Rocks and Soils
We will be learning
- How shadows are formed
- How shadows are changed
- How light is reflected
- The three types of rock – igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic
History
Our learning question is:
“Who were our prehistoric ancestors?”
We will be learning about the Stone Age and Bronze Age. We will be finding out about life as a hunter gatherer, early farming and cave art and comparing it with our lives today.
Geography
Our learning question is:
“What are the different types of settlement in the UK?”
We will be learning about the UK. We will explore the different types of settlements (hamlet, village, town and city) and how land is used. The children will begin to name some of the England’s 48 counties.
Art
This term out focus will be on Drawing.
We will be exploring mark making and line; working and experimenting with different materials through observational and collaborative pieces.
Design Technology
The children will learn about different food groups and a balanced diet before planning and making their own sandwich or wrap.

English
In English, we will be consolidating our phonic knowledge, sentence building and letter formation. We will work on our comprehension skills and fluency when reading and explore spelling rules.
Our writing tasks will be based on
‘The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth’
by Ellie Hattie & Karl James Mountford.
We will be exploring the text and learning to use ‘and’ to join clauses, add suffixes, punctuate sentences in different ways and use story language.
We will be writing our own adventure story!
