Homework
Reading
Children should be reading every night at home for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Their homework diary should be signed and brought into school EVERYDAY and will be checked frequently. Children can read a book from school or a book from home. Some children will be given extra phonics support and work to complete at home.
Spellings
New spellings will be given on Wednesday and there will be a dictation session on the following Friday.
Maths
The children should be completing their math’s timestable sheet given to them each day at home time. This is monitored by Mrs Brookes. The children should also be going onto TT Rockstars and White Rose Infinity for extra practice so that they are ready for the upcoming Times Tables Check in June.
Friday Homework
The children will also be given additional homework on an A4 sheet. This will be handed out on a Friday and is due in on a Wednesday. It will focus on Maths and English skills they have been learning throughout the last two weeks and it will include any QR codes and links to White Rose Infinity Quizzes which the children can access.
PE
The children have PE on Tuesday and Wednesday this term. Children need a full PE kit on these days which includes blue Dallam top, black shorts and suitable trainers. Please ensure your child has warmer clothing during winter months, grey, navy or black joggers with a Dallam PE top.
English
This term, we will be focusing on writing recounts based on a books we are reading in class.
Some key aspects of this unit we will be focusing on are:
Expand noun phrases by the addition of modifying adjectives, nouns and prepositional phrases.
Choose nouns or pronouns appropriately for clarity and cohesion and to avoid repetition.
Use fronted adverbials.
Organise paragraphs around a theme (to organise and sequence more extended narrative structures.)
Use commas after fronted adverbials.
Class Novel
The children will be reading a great story called Goodfellows by Tom Mclaughlin.
The children have an opportunity to read everyday and as a class we read a wide range of texts. We have an enormous school library and class library filled with the latest books to suit the childrens interests and needs. We encourage the children to discuss books with confidence and explore a range of genres and authors.

Maths
This Autumn, the children will be focusing on place value, addition, subtraction and multiplication. We will be using lots of concrete materials, pictorial representations and looking at word problems and reasoning to improve our overall mathematical skills.
We now have access to White Rose Maths infinity and so the children can log in with the school code DQG-VHY and quiz pin which will then allow them to access quizzes which are designed to target their individual needs.

This term the children will be learning about States of Matter and Animals including Humans.
During these topics, they will explore melting and cooling, freezing, the water cycle and the human digestive system.

What happened when the Romans left?
We will continue to work through the history timeline to explore exciting new topics about the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings.
We will look at what happened to Britain when the Romans left, where did the Anglo Saxons and Vikings come from and why is King Alfred still remembered today?
Geography
What might I find in Europe?
We will be focusing on the physical and human features of Europe. Settlements, countries and cities in Europe.
We will develop our mind reading skills, using an atlas and google maps.

Hinduism-
What might Hindus learn from celebrating Diwali?
PSHE–
Our topics for Autumn are being in my world and Celebrating differences.
We deliver these sessions through our Jigsaw scheme and focus on relationships between friends, conflict and respect.
Music–
We are looking at tempo, dynamics, pitch and structure during this term.
Samba music is the key theme.
Art–
We will focusing on developing our drawing skills.
Design and Technology–
We will be making mechanical sling shot cars and creating book sleeves.
Spanish
The topic for Spanish this term is colours and numbers.
Computing–
The topic this term is collaborative learning and coding with Scratch.
