During our writing lessons, we will be reading ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’ which is about a boy called Arthur, who embarks upon a quest to seek out the help of the Viking gods. Our final writing outcome will be a myth. We will be continuing to work on dialogue to move action forward and expanded noun phrases to add detail. We will also learn to use relative clauses with a range of pronouns.

Our class novel this term is ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ by Michael Morpurgo.

Maths

In maths, we will be beginning the term looking at formal methods for multiplication and division and then move on to fractions, decimals and percentages. In addition, we will be learning to work out the area and perimeter of shapes.

Science
Our science topic this term is properties of materials. We will be investigating conductors and insulators, filtration and dissolving. We will also be exploring how changes can be reversible or irreversible.

Did people from the past just disappear?
We will be continuing our learning about the Ancient Maya civilisation and comparing it to British history at a similar time. We will also be finding out what might have happened to the civilisation.

Why do people want to live in America?
Our geography learning will focus on the country of The United States of America, in particular the Western Region. We will be finding out about the settlements and the economic activity in this region and comparing it to the region we live in.

The children have PE on Wednesday and swimming on Friday this term. On PE days, they will need a full PE kit: school PE top, black shorts or tracksuit bottoms and trainers. On swimming days, they will need their swimming kit.
Homework
This can be through the online platforms that school offer or another way. This should be logged in their homework diary with date and signature. Their homework diaries will be checked daily.
Children will also be given homework on a Friday and it will be due on the following Wednesday. The homework will be English and maths based and will reinforce the learning in school. Spellings will also be posted weekly on Google Classroom; they will complete a dictation on a Friday so please practise them at home to help them prepare for this.
