EYFS

Early Years Foundation Stage

Welcome to our EYFS page.  Our Early Years unit is made up of;

Seedlings – 2 year olds

Acorns – 3 and 4 year olds

Ash Class – 4 and 5 year olds

In the foundation stage we follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage which can be found here

At Dallam Primary School, we know that children learn at different rates and in different ways and by using the Birth To Five Framework as guide, we support our children through their learning journey throughout Nursery and Reception.

We have designed our curriculum to nurture and inspire our youngest children, within a safe and happy environment. Our learning landscapes across the EYFS promote independence and curiosity;  a place where the children can learn through play and foster their love of learning.

Our classrooms are set up with open-ended resources, which are accessible, purposeful and driven by planned opportunities for social interaction and creativity. We place a strong emphasis on communication skills through children’s play, as these support learning in the whole curriculum. If you would like to learn more about the expectations for your child’s age, please see the following “Small Talk” document.

Play-Based Learning

          “Play is the highest form of research” -Albert Einstein

At Dallam, we adopt a ‘play-based culture’ , where we believe that play provides children with the opportunity to practice what they have learnt and apply new concepts and ideas.

Our play-based approach adopts child-initiated and teacher-led learning. We do this by encouraging the children’s learning and inquiry through high-quality interactions.

Through these play-based experiences we support the children in developing the key foundations they need to become emergent readers, writers and mathematicians, as well as strong communicators and resilient learners.

“Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child” ™s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own rights.”
